About us

Previously featured in publications like Vogue, Marie Claire, and Byrdie as Skin by Jem, we’ve since expanded into more than just skin-care. We are now SBJ Esntls- a self-care brand rooted in Latinx culture. Represented by the iconic butterfly, SBJ Esntls is here to help you through your transformative self-care journey. We believe that self-care is essential, so we’re bringing you just that– your self-care essentials, all in one place.

We strive to diversify self-care because self-care is for everyone. We are here to build a community of people from all walks of life to share in the journey of growth, love, and care.

Committed to sustainability, we use minimal, recyclable packaging and encourage upcycling your SBJ glass bottles once empty. To minimize waste, we chose not to use outer-box packaging– it's what’s on the inside that matters most to us, anyways.

Through sustainability and inclusivity, we express gratitude for our culture, planet, and community. Promoting wellness above all, SBJ Esntls is here for your skin, and your whole self too.

OUR FOUNDER

Jessica Monzalvo is a Los Angeles based makeup artist and founder of SBJ Esntls. Born and raised in Pachuca, Hdgo. Mexico, Jessica was largely influenced by her culture and early life experiences, which shaped her philosophy in beauty and as an entrepreneur.

Her distinct makeup style and expert advice has been featured in publications including, Vogue, Marie Claire, Paper Magazine, Into the Gloss, and The Cut.

Valuing her culture and community, Jessica wanted to introduce an inclusive self-care brand that was rooted in Latinx culture and her experiences as a woman of color. She is driven by young girls like herself, who are underrepresented and have all odds placed against them. In her own words: “I just want brown girls and first generation immigrants to know they can thrive in unconventional careers and accomplish whatever they set their minds to.”
